We moved on this morning, coming further south along the canal/river, but not very far - to Camping Merry-sur-Yonne. The ACSI campsite book stated "This is not a standard campsite but a campsite where you, the guest, comes first." We were met by a very friendly young Scandinavian lady called Sylvie (whose English is impeccable) in the tiny office-cum-village shop (room for no more than 3 people at a time) who welcomed us, showed us all the facilities, gave us ideas for walks, apologised that the restaurant wouldn't be open this evening, but it will be tomorrow, and told us it would cost us E11.40 a night! She told us that she and her husband are here for the season as volunteers working for the owners of the site, which had been closed for 8 years since the local Mairie couldn't afford to run it as a Municipal site. They are doing a fantastic job of tidying up - Syvie's husband has been lopping trees and mowing grass all afternoon. All in a very peaceful setting in the river valley - perfect for a chilling-out afternoon.

But we had to stretch our legs eventually, and walked back over the canal and river bridges

to see the Rochers du Saussois up close.

Sylvie had told us that there was a way up the cliff face and she was sure that people who had cycled 30k yesterday would manage it fine! So we set off up the stoney path/steps, stopping lots of times to get our breath back, and after about 20 minutes we reached the grassy picnic area at the top.
Unfortunately, we've had very hazy sunshine today, so the views weren't at their best, but it was very atmospheric looking across the valley to the village and beyond.

We took Sylvie's advice and walked back down along the narrow road - going downhill on that steep path wouldn't have been so much fun.

Looks like you are having a great time- with good weather! It's lovely weather here and set to reach 23 degrees at the weekend. Perfect for my brownie holiday that starts on Saturday! xxx
