Mailly le Chateau

Friday 7th April

This is such a welcoming place to be.  This morning we brought the laptop into the restaurant and immediately we were offered a hot drink to wish me a happy birthday.  We enjoyed reading all the messages that various friends had sent me - thank you to everyone.

Eventually we got out on our bikes today and cycled the short distance to Mailly le Chateau, a village perched up on the cliff-top overlooking a meander of the river/canal.  After our picnic by the canal, we climbed up the steep path to the chateau and the magnificent view from the ramparts.  After a walk about the village, we followed a geocaching walk which brought us back down again via a more gentle path.  We'd just got back to the bikes when we received a WhatsAp video from Barbados - our delightful grandchildren singing happy birthday to me!!

We've spent the evening in the restaurant enjoying another superb meal and catching up with yet more birthday messages on facebook and emails.  Zac had arranged for a half-bottle of rose to be brought to us 'on ze ouse' - what another lovely gesture!
